The Strong Girl Youth Outreach program has been created to enrich the lives of teenage girls by exposing them to inspiring and influential female artists and their work.
We are dedicated to educate young women and introduce them to POSITIVE female role models, with the hopes that learning about other strong women will inspire and instill much needed confidence. We wish to empower them and create an open environment of expression through the viewing and creating of photographs, paintings, drawings and sculptures. We emphasize the importance of self-esteem and what confidence in a female means.
Each meeting consists of an introduction to one important female artist. The first half of the class will include a group discussion prompted by a slide show of work of the respective artist. During this time the girls will be encouraged to speak about feelings the artwork evokes in them. The remainder of the time will consist of an activity that encourages expression of feelings through not words, but a photograph, or a painting, drawing etc, created in the style similar to the artist they just learned about. The class will conclude with a discussion about each artist's work, why they created it, and what it means to them.
The Strong Girl Youth Outreach program will be working at a northside Chicago Public School starting in the fall of 2007!
